From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Regarding your workshops on "REINVENTING" JOURNALISM, I'm OUTRAGED that the FTC has the audacity to propose, recommend, discuss or whatever you want to call it, ways for the government to CONTROL FREE SPEECH (under the guise of "fairness"). Print media must adapt to the new ways of presenting and accessing news. WE DON'T NEED A HUGE NEW GOVT. BEAUROCRACY TO CONTROL THE NEWS MEDIA--IT MUST BE ALLOWED TO "REINVENT" ITSELF, AS IS THE RULE IN A FREE SOCIETY. SHOULD WE HAVE SUBSIDIZED THE BUSINESSES THAT MADE CARRIAGES IN 1895? NO, THEY STARTED MAKING VEHICLES! _x000B__x000B_Your recommendations are nothing more than a front for govt. control: TRAINING YOUNG AMERICORP MINDS ON HOW TO REPORT THE NEWS, AND ESTABLISHING A GOVT. FUND TO SUBSIDIZE NEWS ORGANIZATIONS (WHICH ONES AND CRITERIA, PLEASE!), AND GIVING SOME OF THEM (WHICH ONES AND CRITERA, PLEASE!) TAX EXEMPTIONS FROM THE SLEW OF HUGE NEW TAXES NEEDED TO PAY FOR ALL THIS, IS SIMPLY OUTRAGEOUS! TALK ABOUT A HUGE CONFLICT OF INTEREST!! TALK ABOUT CONTROLLING AND SUPPRESSING FREE SPEECH!!! Please read the FIRST AMENDMENT TO OUR CONSTITUTION, and then STOP WHAT YOU ARE ILLEGALLY TRYING TO DO!!!_x000B__x000B_You and your cohort, the FCC, should concentrate on protecting the American public from REAL DANGERS, like the Islamic terrorists trying their best to kill us, and using our new technologies to help them, rather than rIdiculous schemes like this that make Americans very angry at you! Please read the U.S. CONSTITUTION, ALL OF IT, AND CHANGE YOUR WAYS!!! Or resign, if you don't get the point of this message!!!!
