From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
To Whom It May Concern at the FTC: Proposal of a "Drudge Tax" or implementation of a "Fairness Doctrine" will only serve to LIMIT free speech in America. Being a proud and patriotic American, it has been frustrating in recent years to watch the major TV stations provide news that is very ONE sided. I am talking about MSNBC, NBC, CBS, CNN, ABC and PBS. There are very few TV journalists and anchors free to investigate and report, rather, in most cases they are given information and viewpoints that comes directly from a main source with a bias. I know this to be true as one of my children is a prime time anchor in a large city. Investigation and reporting the other side of many issues is forbidden....unless one wants to lose their job. My child's only choice is to report what is given or lose a job. In recent years, I have come to rely on information that I obtain online or on the radio to make certain that I can obtain both sides of a story. The current political administration is making power grabs in many areas of our lives and now it seems that they are attempting to destroy or handicap free speech. I have not been involved in politics in my lifetime with the exception of this past year as I have supported candidates for political office. Please take time to read The Constitution of the United States of America and all its Amendments. DO NOT TAKE AWAY MY RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH or MY RIGHT TO ACCESS FACTS AND INFORMATION.
