From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
My comment about all this is that the government needs to stay out of the journalism business other than to give regular televised updates on how issues of public interest are progressing. We are supposedly guaranteed the right to freedom of and/or FREE speech in this country and when you start to impose taxes on things and have government control involved, speech is no longer free as only those who can afford to pay the tax or who are saying what those in charge want to hear will likely be allowed to be heard. If we leave the journalism industry alone, I feel confident that enterprising minds will figure out how to still make a living at it without any government help even in this new electronic media age. We are taxed enough already.
