From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I am very distressed by the proposals to tax US citizens for the media (bailout fund for journalists), cell phones, TVs, radios, I pads etc. It is not the responsibility of the tax payers to pay &/or contribute to journalists salaries. However, more disturbing than that is the proposal to limit free speech by the fairness doctrine & having the government train a new generation of journalists. The government has no business training journalists. It certainly seems to me that is a gross conflict of interest. Freedom of speech is part of what has made this nation great. Debate & the ability to communicate with those with whom we disagree creates better understanding as well as opening doors to encourage answers, compromises etc. (besides being one of the most basic principles upon which this nation was founded.
