From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
In reference to the "Reinventing Journalism" document just released: The FTC has no right initiating a massive tax bill to fund their efforts to redirect the political climate of the media. This is the largest intrusion of government on free press I have witnessed in my life time. Since everyone has adopted the "separation of church and state" mentality, we should also adopt a "separation of the press and state." This "Reinventing Journalism" document is outrageous and intolerable and is the equivalent of charging the wolves to keep watch over the sheep. Once the FTC remakes journalism into whatever government influenced or controlled image they design, there will no longer be any entity left to keep Washington honest. Additionally, the federal government seems to have forgotten that we are in a recession. People do not ahve jobs or extra money. Raising taxes on the things that middle class and poorer class Americans use amounts to pouring water over our heads while we're drowning. We need another tax like we need another hole in our lower extremities. The FTC needs to back off and let us get our feet under us before they decide to continue milking every last dime out of us in order to fund their pet projects. I insist they trash this disgusting proposal and stop meddling in affairs they have no authority or moral right to meddle in. Phil Harding Goodyear, AZ
