From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I want to express my opposition to any further government expansion into industries that should remain in the hands of the private sector. Banking, the automotive industry, and healthcare are controversial enough, but it is a particularly egregious act for a government to assume such a large degree of control over the press, which needs to be free from government influence in order to report openly, as is recognized by our First Amendment. Also, it is imprudent to raise taxes in order to subsidize and resuscitate a dying force in an evolving media. In a free market, demands shift with technology. People are choosing to get their news from less traditional sources, let that demand determine what is supplied. Do not prop up an artificial, federally fed, state run media.
