From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Regarding the FTC "Reinventing Journalism" document: We don't need journalism to be "reinvented". What we need is for the FTC to get out of the way of the free market- the American people- and to leave freedom of the press alone. In free democratic societies, it is not the government's job to "help" journalists. Pretty soon they "help" them to slant the news to the government's advantage, just as in Communist countries where journalists are also "helped". But I suspect the FTC already knows this. It is obvious that these proposals are merely a way to impose more taxes on Americans, a way to subsidize and prop up dying liberal media, and a way to control and regulate free speech to suit the wishes of the radical Mr. Obama and his neo-Marxist regime. Fortunately, Americans are waking up to this fact, and you will not be able to fool them into believing that you are doing all this for their benefit or for the "survival of journalism". It is just another ploy, like so many other government promises to "help" us. Here's a refreshing thought: All media should have an equal OPPORTUNITY to succeed, but not an equal right to a successful outcome! So let the media that aren't succeeding without government "assistance" fail. They SHOULD fail. Perhaps if they started doing real journalism instead of liberal advocacy, they might succeed.
