From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The FTC has no business trying to pick winners and losers in the evolving media world. Attempting to preserve the legacy media by punishing new media (with taxation and burdensome regulation) will not save the former and only retard the development of the latter. This seems to be some kind of payoff for the friendly media coverage eagerly provided by the mainstream media to the Obama campaign in 2008. It does nothing to promote the free political dialogue envisioned in the First Amendment and is nothing more than a Federal power grab aimed at stifling dissent.
