From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The government has no business in supporting or funding journalism. If the newspaper industry is downsizing, so be it. Other types of media, with journalism jobs, will take the newspapers' place. Why the government would even want to propose any additional type of funding when the government is already in financial distress is beyond me. You are interfering with the First Amendment right to a free press. Once the press is in any way paid for or supported by the government, they are no longer a free press, they are an arm of the government, or perhaps that is really the goal of this Act.
