From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
In a free country, there is no place for government subsidy of news media! Under such a scheme, how can the media possibly remain objective? How can it serve its long standing (but lately lacking) function as the "fourth estate"---after the legislative, the executive and the judiciary---to keep a check on our three branches of government by reporting on their missteps and transgressions? That reporting may be inconvenient for The Administration, but it's essential to a country that hopes to remain free. You really need to (please!) let the free market work here; stop penalizing the innovative and successful; and stop trying to save a business that needs to save itself. If it's meant to fail, it will, whether you help it or not. If it's worthwhile to consumers, it will find its own way to survive.
