From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
It is a mistake for the federal government to get into the business of supporting any form of journalism. If you research history you will find that while there is a long tradition of political parites supporting newspapers, there is no tradition of governmental support for them. Govermental support, however well intentioned, opens the door to the abuse and slanting of how investigative journalism works. The financial state of news sources is not due to a lack of interest in news, but rather is due to the fact consumers do not trust the news sources.
