From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
After reading your proposals on the life and death issues facing the ny times and other large newpapers. I have come to the conclusion that all of you at the FTC sitting around the tax payer funded table at the ftc discussing the fate of the harvard educated writers at the NY Times, have way too much time on your hands. And that you are wasting our tax payers money sitting around discussing the fate of liberal leaning newspapers. The reason they are failing is that noone wants to read thier lame stream stories any more.and no one who advertises wants to pay for ads that no one see's. Why do you at the FTC want to figure out a way to use taxpayer money to prop up a failing business? What a waste of our money and your time, which we pay taxpayers pay for, and this proposal makes me wonder why we fund the FTC, at the current level perhaps we are paying too much for what we are getting in return. I say this because your proposal to save the NY Times and other large liberal newspapers is a complete waste of time and money, don't you all at the FTC have enough work to do? My God you guys are an embarressment to the taxpayers of this fine country. Could you please try to raise you standards to match those of your fellow taxpayer citizens. The US Govt. should never ever pay newspapers to produce the news. If it was such a great idea don't you think that Public TV and NPR would be huge leaders in the media world? We taxpayers do not want to get our news from the govt. Because we don't trust the Govt. to deliver the real news. Goverments want to only give the news approved by the goverment. Thats not what we want or need in this country. Take a look at the ratings of the US congress, there at all time lows, Why? because we don't trust them anymore. We don't trust them to do the right thing, because they hav'nt done the right thing for a long time now. You people collecting a govt. pay check are not doing right by us taxpayers. Please Please DO NOT SPEND ANY TAX MONEY ON CRUMMIE NEWSPAPERS!!!!!!!! We did not create the FTC to bail out newspapers thats not your job. It's the job of newspapers to find a way to get us to give them some of our money for the news. Its very telling when these newspapers come to the taxpayer funded FTC for some taxpayer money to "survive". What, the only way they can figure out to get us to pay for their news stories is to force us to pay for them? And you all at the FTC want to be apart of that? Please quit sitting around the taxpayer funded table trying to figure out another way to waste the taxpayer dollars!
