16 CFR Part 425: "Rule Concerning the Use of Prenotification Negative Option Plans"
I ordered a free trial for a product called Purity 12 at the request of my mother, who wanted to try product, but did not have computer access. There was nothing that I found to indicate any trouble, until after the ordering process was complete. I had to enter my credit card number in order to pay a minimal shipping fee for the free trial, but it automatically enrolled me into a plan that charged me nearly 80.00 a month for the bottles of pills. It showed me this after all the information was entered. I immediately cancelled my request, which "got lost" according to the company, and I wound up being charged for teh next few months. There was nothing prior to entering my card information for me to know I'd be charged. I even recieved a confirmation email when I cancelled, but they went on to charge me. They should be forced to make obvious disclosure of any "catch" in their free trial. If their trial had indeed been free, and the product worked, I would have gladly ordered more of the product at cost, but because they tried to scam me, the product was never even tried. Their loss. But I feel for people who are less aware of these scams when they are occurring.
