The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) commends the Interagency Working Group for addressing children s diets and the challenge of obesity through the creation of nutrition principles for foods marketed to children. We endorse the full comments on the proposed nutrition principles submitted by the National Food Marketing Workgroup, particularly the importance of consistent standards applied industry-wide and a comprehensive definition of marketing. Most major food companies have acknowledged that childhood obesity is a serious problem. The proposed guidelines will give them a tool to be part of the solution. We look forward to opportunities to educate, engage, and incentivize the food industry to only market foods that improve our children s health.
