I strongly disagree with the FTC's Proposed Consent Agreement. First of all, MTNA is a community of teachers. The Ethics Code was set forth to guide how members should act in this particular community and is not economically driven. Second, MTNA represents a mere fraction of music teachers. The FTC is over-reaching to act as though this organization is influencing the marketplace. Third, MTNA has already agreed to take out the portion of the Ethics Code with which the FTC is concerned. To force MTNA to maintain an antitrust compliance program with MTNA's limited staff and resources creates an undue hardship on the organization. They have already spent many man-hours and attorney's fees on this matter and further action just adds insult to injury.
