Unfortunately, the FTC is totally in the wrong in this case. MTNA never has condoned solicitation of students from the studios of other teachers. Doctors and Lawyers, among other professions, are forbidden from doing this. Where the FTC commissioners get the idea music education is different ethically than other professions sadly is a reflection of the climate in which they work, aka Washington, D.C. If such codes of ethics were adhered to in the Nation's Capitol, not only would the FTC be a better, more ethical organization, but the Federal City itself would have a higher level of respect from the citizens of this great country. Sincerest best wishes, Jesse R. Hankla, DMA Dean of Liberal Artsand Professor Emeritus Oklahoma Panhandle State University
