Frankly, I have had much more trouble with the piano technicians' guild in the matter of group control of members' behavior in relation to the public generally. As this is supposedly a free country, any professional must prove his worth in the eyes of present or potential clientele; otherwise, we would have inappropriate government control over private artistic work. Supposedly, we do not live in the former USSR in the matter of government interference in the arts. I therefore urge the elimination of any restrictive policy which would command a private music teacher in matters of the entire conduct of his business. Manners cannot, ultimately, be legislated.
