Please allow Music Teachers National Association and its affiliates to maintain without penalty the code of ethics that they currently have. This code, which asks teachers to refrain from pursuing students from other studios is one which demonstrates respect and professional courtesy. It promotes the concept that music teachers are colleagues of one another, and that we would like to support one another rather than undermine each other's work and livelihood. Every music teacher that I know is in agreement with the current code of ethics. We have chosen to abide with this code of ethics when we became members of Music Teachers National Association, and are in agreement with its practice. Out of respect for one another, we do not wish to attempt to take students away from each other, but would like to see each teacher thrive. Prospective parents and students have plenty of means to make comparisons between available teachers with the teachers themselves actively soliciting students from another teacher. In fact, to promote such soliciting activity seems to take away from the professionalism of our craft.
