I find the FTC's investigation of MTNA to be a ridiculous waste of taxpayer dollars. MTNA's recommendation (that teachers not actively recruit students from a colleague's studio) is just that -- a recommendation; it is not enforced and is common among other professions, such as lawyers and doctors. Proponents of the arts, including MTNA, have very limited funds and resources -- certainly not sufficient funds to defend itself against a federal government investigation. The government's frivolous investigation does nothing but hamper those who are simply trying to make a living wage while adding beauty to the lives of Americans everywhere through the gift of music. The FTC ought to be embarrassed to be spending tax-payer resources in such a manner.
