The allegations brought against the Music Teachers' National Association are absolutely ridiculous. This is yet another example of federal government over-regulation. MTNA should have the freedom to decide their own code of ethics without the federal government interfering. The code of ethics states "the teacher shall respect the integrity of other teachers’ studios and shall not actively recruit students from another studio." The government is then advocating that music teachers should act without integrity? Why is integrity a bad thing? Why is conducting ethical business practices a bad thing? I strongly believe in a free market economy that embraces competition, but I cannot support unethical business practices and I cannot believe the government is condoning and advocating unethical business practices. This is a red flag of how unethical our own government has become. This issue has nothing to do with the FTC insuring competition and access to the best prices for consumers. This issue is purely about government control and over-reach. I am absolutely disgusted with our government.
