Preliminary Proposed Nutrition Principles to Guide Industry Self-Regulatory Efforts, Project No. P094513
I strongly support protecting these nutrition principles that the IWG had proposed for industry self-regulatory efforts. As much as industry heads and governmental officials remind the public that personal responsibility is central to keeping our families healthy, the social ecological model demonstrates that individuals' choices are influenced by much more than personal knowledge of health and motivation. Advertising, social climate and other environmental factors play heavily into our eating behaviors and corporations have learned how to be extremely persuasive in urging us to buy (and feed our families) unhelpful "food substances." They and government should both take more responsibility and help us choose health, or "disease-care" costs will only continue to skyrocket.
