The investigation launched by the FTC on the MTNA is both abusive and meritless. The bylaw under question regarding teachers soliciting other teachers students was put in place back in the 1800's to promote ethical behavior between the teachers. If you could put yourselves in the place of the common man, imagine this. You have a son or daughter who is a gifted violinist. Would you want another teacher trying to solicit your child away from their current pedagogue.....of course not. It is simply common courtesy and common sense. This never has been meant to discourage competition. Students can go to whatever teacher they choose. There is no price fixing or collusion going on. To suggest such is ludicrous. Your decision to launch this investigation makes it apparent that you know very little regarding private music lessons. Surely you have bigger fish to fry. We are not talking about OPEC here! I hope you come to your collective common senses and drop this spurious investigation.
