Statement of Policy Regarding Communications in Connection with Collection of a Decedent’s Debt, Project No. P104806
People run up debts, particularly health care debts, when they are at the end of their life. The idea that anyone outside of the insurance companies or Medicare should be obligated by this is absurd. These debts occur outside of any normal permission of obligation and often outside of even the knowledge of even their former spouses or family, much less any friends. Opening up grieving people to this kind of attack by unscrupulous bill collectors is unconscionable. Also during peoples lives they run up debt all on their own asking no permission and without any contractual involvement on anyone else's part. Why should anyone not involved and not a co-signatory be responsible for this?
