The MTNA Code of Ethics which has been attacked is a value code of a responsible and professional group of teachers who believe in being fair to fellow professionals in this field of employment. Actively recruiting from another teacher is not a sensible or ethic activity and viewed by fellow professionals and the public as poor and under handed business practice. We compete on professional preparation of education and experience and allow the clients the opportunity to select on this basis. Music teachers are business professionals who use their developed talent to attract clients who are usually very loyal to the teachers and are their best advertisers. The argument that consumers are injured is ridiculous by reducing quality and increasing prices comes from no knowledge in this field of employment. Some blanket idea has been put forth with no investigation in this professional field. Soliciting students from another teacher is very unethical and the code of ethics should stand because it has integrity which attacking it has no integrity. Teachers live where they have their students and therefore are respected in the community by the way they conduct their business. Code or no approved code will still be practiced by ethical teachers because it is the correct way of doing business.
