I am a member of MTNA and am sad to see the vast amount of time invested by both MTNA and the FTC on an issue that is a non-issue. While I value the role of the FTC in protecting consumers, the Code of Ethics has not limited free trade and an active consumer atmosphere. It simply protected the teacher from inappropriate poaching of students. Teachers have always been free to set their own prices. Students have always been free to seek alternatives if they want something more affordable. All this being said, I fully support the FTC accepting the Consent Decree so that MTNA can move ahead. MTNA has been thoughtful in it's dealing with this difficult issue and would like to get back to it's mission of educating teachers and students, rather than wrangling over legal matters. The Consent Decree should satisfy the FTC's concern over antitrust issues and certainly ensures that MTNA will follow the guidelines set forth in the decree.
