I feel that this entire action by the FTC is not appropriate. The Music Teachers National Association in no way restricts competition or engages in unfair trade practices. The Code, which is not enforced by MTNA, contains one provision that encourages members not to solicit students from other music studios. This is a professional courtesy followed by many other professions such as doctors or lawyers. This is nothing new and is a long standing practice in the teaching community. I find it unbelievable that the FTC would pursue this line of investigation into an organization that is definitely not wealthy, does great service to the music community and is made up of members who are probably mostly in the middle to lower class. It is a huge waste of our organization's money and taxpayers' dollars. Words cannot express my sense of outrage!
