I strongly feel that personal care products such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, cosmetics, etc. should only be labeled as organic if they meet strict standards just like food products. Well educated consumers are increasingly becomes more aware of the concerns associated with petrochemicals and other synthetic ingredients used in the formulations of these products. Just because a product contains a percent or two of an organic oil should not be sufficient for labeling it organic or carrying organic anywhere within the product name. I read all labels so I will not purchase a product unless it is 100% or nearly 100% organic. However, many consumers see the word organic and immediately feel that it must be better when upon further review it would become apparent that the product contains barely any organic ingredients and is formulated with many of the same toxic chemicals used in the comparable products which do not contain the word organic. I urge you to require proper third party certification for any product labeled as organic and to require the product to be labeled with percent organic (e.g., 70% organic ingredients) such that it is perfectly clear to the consumer. Also, petrochemicals and synthetic ingredients should be banned from organic products as they have no place there. Thank you for your consideration.
