MTNA's Code of Ethics is voluntary. The section on not soliciting other teachers' students just reflects collegiality. The FTC's actions now seem to inform members of MTNA and its state and local affiliates that they cannot talk about rates in any way during meetings. This is a major step backwards. We do not suggest amounts, or tell members what to charge, but we should be able to share general information concerning rates, much as the Department of Labor shares statistics. Now teachers are so afraid of the long arm of the FTC, that they are concerned about sharing general information about the financial aspects of our profession. This is extremely unfortunate.
