Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims, Project No. P954501
I hate the term "carbon offsets". Call them what they are, trees or whatever the company means, and tell us when they will be planted to "offset" whatever the company is not doing right. Or, change the procedure you have to "offset" in the first place. There is DEFINITELY confusion about the term and how it works to consumers. Burt's Bees is a pefect example of how a company should advertise how "natural" a product is, they are setting the standard. The ingredients should be listed clearly on the item. Yes, the FTC SHOULD lay out a guide for how long a liquid should take to degrade so that there are no questions as to whether a company is doing it right or not. "Made with renewable materials" should have a guideline as well, so the company has to prove to customers that the items are renewable! A Biodegradable Plastic needs to be REQUIRED from companies so that our oceans are not filled with plastic and plastic film like they are now too.
