I think you guys are rediculous and are a waste of tax payers money. I, for one, could give to craps about this but thought I'd vent anyway since it seems to affect the local chapter I belong to. Music teachers and musicians alike have certaim ethics that we have always followed, regardless if we know what each other charges or not. As it is we are always competing against each other as well as collaborating with each other. So, are you really that blind or just plain stupid? Another FYI - I know of at least a couple out of 8 music teachers in my local chapter already "poaches" students regardless what MTNA states as "ethical". So I know that other chapters throughout the state have those who poach students - duh. I don't need some bureaucratic entity who doesn't have a clue about what MTNA really is or what music teaching is about, hand-holding and telling me "no-no". It's my music business NOT YOURS. Most of us already advertise just like a "regular" business (oh wow - yes competition, I have even given discounts just to get students), so telling MTNA that "we" need to be competitive you sound like a bunch of idiots because you obviously have no clue about musicians and music teachers and what we are really capable of. We are a catty bunch and can get down right bitchy and VERY competitive just the rest of society. In short - our EGOS are probably bigger than yours. You guys better do a little more research on what you're actually going after because the buzz you're making throughout the music community isn't setting well with some.
