I find this intrusion by the FTC into our small organization's affairs to be appalling! Doctors and Lawyers have a similar restriction on poaching other's clients. MTNA has only provided a suggestion toward civility in our interactions with each other. The FTC is completely overreaching its authority. Ours is a small organization of piano teachers across the country-the epitome of small businesses. As far as restricting trade or setting prices--the assertions made by the FTC are ludicrous! Our members prices are not set at all, and have huge ranges in every area! I do wish that our organization would list the teacher's name next to winners in competitive events, so that parents and clients would have more information with which to choose a teacher. Still, MTNA policy toward civility is nothing the government should worry about or regulate! The policy does NOT restrict trade and is not unfair or deceptive! FTC has designed yet more regulation by those that have too much time on their hands. The FTC is the one who restricts trade!!! Stay out of business, unless it is a clear cut issue of unfair practice!
