I'm writing to strongly object to the tentative agreement between the FTC and Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany, GA, as this is an organization driven by greed with an agenda to eliminate (at all costs)any competition. The price-gouging for their services is beyond belief and their ratings for patient safety have been such that a recent publication listed Phoebe as one of the 25 WORST hospitals in America for patient safety. The horror stories of patients going into the hospital for some kind of surgery...and then getting staff infection occurs much more often than the national average and it makes you if a competing hospital might make Phoebe pay more attention to their infection problems. At the very least, it would make Phoebe think twice about their off-the-chart charges...such as $8,200 for an EGD and colonoscopy. Finally, I would hope that Phoebe could be made to divest themselves of all the physician practices they've bought over the past 3 or 4 years...or even more, as these doctors' patients are now being charged ridiculously large amounts as a result of (in essence)going to Phoebe, rather than their formerly self-employed doctor. In short, Phoebe is not a "good player" and it is disheartening to see how a large paycheck for their executives and senior managers can allow these people to forget that integrity and ethics do matter...and to generate huge profits from the health care system, regardless of the impact on the community and its citizens, is wrong and needs to be stopped!
