Proposed Consent Agreement In the Matter of Showplace, Inc., also doing business as Showplace Rent-to-Own and Showplace Lease/Purchase, FTC File No. 1123151
I laugh at your findings, a person renting has a right to privacy? Yes, this is true, but these people were NOT renting at the time they were stealing! Please state the facts correctly! They use to be renting the computer, but those rights were gone when they decided to steal it. How is it that I walk into a rent-to-own store, pay for a month, and then sell the computer and claim it was stolen does the person I sold it to have a right to privacy? They are using stolen property are they not? How is it that I walk into a rent-to-own store, pay for a month, move and don’t tell the rental store where I am at, how am I entitled to privacy just because I use to rent the computer that I am now stealing? How is it that I walk into a rent-to-own store, pay for a month, then tell the rental store that it was stolen and they use the webcam to determine in fact I am still using it, how am I entitled to privacy? I honestly believe if you tell the truth about each and every one of these installed spying incidents I think you will find that the rental store was just trying to get their property back. I would like you to get a hold of every one of these people that had their picture taken and for you to ask them if they were stealing the computer or a victim of privacy abuse. Please ask these stores the status of the rental contract at the time they took the picture and what they tried to do before they resulted to spying on whomever was using it.
