I am concerned about the number of mergers of large companies that have taken place in the last few years. I still remember when the government broke up huge companies like ATT because owning so much of the market was considered bad for business. It's still bad for business today. Merging Staples and Essendant will simply give consumers fewer choices and create too much power in the market for the resulting company. We need a healthy economy. Capitalism is built on competition. Without competition, capitalism becomes sickly, service and innovation die. If you want to encourage a poor economy, go ahead with this merger as it will only help one company and a limited number of individuals, leaving the office supplies business weak and consumers frustrated when they find they have higher prices and less choice than they had before. I am also concerned because it appears that the lawyer who negotiated the merger had previously been the head of the FTC division that reviews these kinds of mergers. If so, this gives at least the appearance and possibly the reality of unfair advantage as this lawyer would have many connections at the FTC making them possibly more open to the merger whether or not is is truly in the best interest of the American economy and the American people. Thank you
