FTC to Hold Workshop Examining Online Event Ticket Sale - Agency Seeks Input in Advance of March 2019 Workshop; Project No. P18450
Most tickets I buy are through Ticketmaster or the Fargodome website; both venues charge astronomical fees on top of the so-called ticket price. Venue fees, "convenience fees", or whatever other surcharges they come with. A $50 ticket can easily hit $75 when all is said and done. These fees can be roughly 20-50% of the ticket fee depending on where you're purchasing. Ticketmaster also adds on fees when you're buying from their resale site. It's also been revealed that a lot of these tickets are bought in bulk by professionals and get deals with Ticketmaster for volume sales - so Ticketmaster not only earns fees from the original purchase, but also a second time when they're bought from the resale market. It's a scam and needs to be changed.
