We appreciate the opportunity to highlight that the major search engine, Google, is preparing to remove essential information from its user interface in Chrome 72 in January 2019. Once this information is removed all websites will look the same to consumers in terms of strongly confirmed identities versus those which are anonymous (where 99.8% of encrypted phishing occurs today). As the Commission considers how to best look at online consumer protection issues in the 21st Century, a core principle must be consumer confidence in the safety and security of their activities. Our comments highlight the threat consumers face if browsers remove this information from the user interface and offer suggestions on how the Commission should proceed.
