In the Matter of CoreLogic, Inc., a corporation, File No. 131 0199
Corelogic now owns much of the data and also very large "portals" which are systems for appraisals to be not only ordered but delivered. They own Marshall & Swift Cost data, Floor maps and just purchased the largest appraisal software program used by almost all appraisers. They own Landsafe and Rels which are the largest Appraisal Management Companies that exist today. They are either a Monopoly or trying to become a Monopoly and threaten appraiser's independence. Appraisers, who are held to high standards of independence, objectivity, and due diligence are increasingly concerned about the inherent dangers of this concentration of control by a single entity and its effect on the integrity, both real and perceived, of the valuation process. The FTC needs to ensure that CoreLogic cannot have a negative impact on the valuation and data systems because of course, that will encourage abuse.
