Corelogic is in control of so many resources appraisers rely on. It is almost impossible for an appraiser to complete an appraisal without the use of a Corelogic product. They own Realist Tax,, Mercury Network, REALAVM, Marshall & Swift, FNC, FNC/AppraisalPort, FNC Collateral DNA, Columbia Institute, RELS, LSAM, DataQuick, Appraisal Scope, Matrix MLS, Interthinx, Data Courier, LandSafe, much of the MLS data, and as of a few days ago, they also acquired a la mode, an appraisal software used by more than 40,000 appraisers. In short, they own the data storage and management, the appraisal ordering, appraisal management platforms, an appraisal education institution, cost data and now the software along with the new data sharing program that goes with it. Consumers benefit from an open and competitive market. In the appraisal profession, CoreLogic is in control of so many of the resources appraisers rely on, so the question becomes is it open and competitive market? And how can one entity control the data, the valuation and the risk assessments (securities) on the back end, as well? This is a monopoly enterprise at this point. Below are two articles with more than hundreds of comments discussing further my points above.
