FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
I'm opposed to the proposal to require contact lens prescribers to keep a signed copy acknowledging a patient received their contact lens prescription. It is burdensome and humiliating, punishing doctors who have obeyed the rules and who legitimately care for the health of their patients. It is unnecessarily and offensively inserting the purely financial concerns of big online retailers into the doctor-patient relationship. The FTC should see this greed-driven effort for what it is and avoid becoming the pawn of online retailers. Our patients receive their contact lens prescriptions, and in a world where almost anything can be purchased online consumers/patients are well aware they can go elsewhere to purchase their contacts without putting any additional burdens on doctors and healthcare facilities. Punish people who disobey the current rules - don't create new rules that criminalize every eye doctor in the eyes of their patients.
