FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
I think the proposed contact lens paperwork proposal is a very bad idea. This is only going to create additional paperwork and expense for practices like mine that are already willingly compliant with releasing contact lens prescriptions. I don't think this extra burden you are placing on me will benefit patients in any significant way. They are already entitled to a contact lens prescription when professional services are concluded. I do think that your focus would be better placed on contact lens sellers that sell contact lenses to patients with expired prescriptions or no prescriptions at all which is unethical and I believe should be illegal. My primary concern is the continued good health of my patients' eyes and protecting their ability to see for years down the road. Contacts are wonderful tools but if misused have the potential to cause devastating loss of vision. I don't think your goal should be to eliminate safeguards for responsible contact lens use.
