FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
Dear FTC Commissioners, Please do not be coerced into rule changes that lead to patient safety concerns. As a practicing optometrist I see everyday the negative effects of contact lens abuse. When questioning patients it surprises me how often they purchase contact lenses through online retailers that clearly do not match their prescription. Every patient has unique ocular health and passing rules that benefit retailers that violate those rules is damaging to patient safety. California law requires that every contact lens patient receive a copy of their prescription, as an ethical practicing optometrist those are existing rules that I abide by. This rule change is nothing but an attempt by private retailers to turn this medical device into commodity trading for there own benefit. On behalf of the health and safety of all my patients I thank you for your time. Sincerely, Matthew Moraton, OD
