FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
The proposed changes are adding extra regulation which is not necessary. As an Optometrist, I release my contact lens Rx per the existing laws. However, I rarely receive any verification from online sellers. In fact I have myself ordered contact lens using my contact information from a well known online merchant and never received any verification notice. Why is this important? Many improvements have been made to contact lenses over the past 10 years, so they are safer than ever before, but patients can still have issues. The issues usually stem from improper wearing, improper cleaning and changes in patients eye health. Let's protect the eye health of the american people, require stricter enforcement of verification. Adding a signed acknowledgement adds an extra burden to tracking the release of contact lens Rx's and little to protect patients eye health.
