FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
The proposed changes to the Contact Lens rule would be in detriment of Patient's ocular health--- as it is... it is a challenge to catch all the expired prescriptions which get verification requests... especially those late in the day and weekends....FDA considers Soft Contact lenses as drugs given the risk of damaging eyes if patients are not compliant with their replacement schedule and regimen.... and having a patient potentially unchecked for up to 3 yrs (assuming rx may still be valid)-- could potentially skyrocket the cases of corneal ulcers and other complications...which in the end will be inconvenience and also added costs to patients ... certainly I understand the need to protect consumers... but it would be reckless to have lenient guidelines to protect our patients eye health....
