FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
Gentleman: I have been a successful Eye Care practitioner for more than 45 years. Our practice has alway placed quality patient care first. We have successfully fit thousand patients with contact lenses. Contacts must be considered a medical device, if patients are fit with or given the wrong contact lenses it could result in serious complications and injury to their eyes. Large retailer are strictly motivated by bottom line profits they are not concerned with the patients well being or the patient's eye health. They frequently fill out dated Rx's and substitute lens types and place the patients at risk for serious eye complications. Patients medical well being should always be our primary goal. Contact Lenses are medical devices and should be dispensed as medical devices. If the lense are purchased from a retail source the prescription should verified to ensure the the Rx lenses are delivered to the patient as prescribed. Respectfully, Israel Plasner,OD
