FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
Dear FTC Commissioners, I am a doctor of optometry providing essential front line eye health care and vision care in my home town of Kasson, MN. My office is the only eye care available in Dodge County, MN. I am concerned about the proposed Contact Lens Rule, requiring more time and paperwork on my part, while the Commission allows mass retailers who blatantly violate the current laws regarding contact lenses to operate unchecked. There are paid consultants voicing unfounded claims about why the proposed rule is needed; see Buzz Feed News March 21, 2018. Their claims are false and not documented by facts! I urge you to listen to the nation's eye doctors and other public health experts (FDA, CDC), in recognizing contact lenses as a medical device, and enforce the existing laws. Please do not add more administrative cost burden to the individual practitioner, like me. Sincerely, Christine A. Leska OD
