FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
I work with one of many, many wonderful eyecare providers in this great country who want to see patients taken care of the best possible way. Optometry has continued to be compliant with the current FTC guidelines on contact lenses and patient choice in their purchase of contacts. Putting NEEDLESS demands on doctors and office staff will NOT enhance the patient care or benefit to the public. The REAL issues with contact lenses comes with online sellers who do NOT comply with current standards. The methods used to verify accuracy of contacts so often does not accomplish this and IS UNSAFE to consumers and patients. I have had MULTIPLE occasions in my office of completely incorrect contacts being purchased by a patient because the verification was not done by the online seller. PLEASE DO NOT BOW TO THE PRESSURE OF ONLINE SELLERS TO NEEDLESSLY CHANGE STANDARDS FOR CONTACT LENS PRESCRIPTIONS. RATHER, ENFORCE THE CURRENT STANDARDS THAT ARE REASONABLE TO BOTH SELLERS AND DOCTORS TO ENSURE ACCURACY AND SAFETY OF A PRESCRIPTION DEVICE. Thank you so very much.
