FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
The proposed rule changes, do not change the law's requirement concerning CL Rx release, nor does it further protect the consumer. It only puts an undo burden on the practioner. The consumers would be better served if regulations were in place to STOP the sale of contacts on expired Rx's, insist online retailers verify CL Rx's DURING BUSINESS HOURS ONLY, and stop the sale of contacts through unauthorized dealers and black market sources. Contact lenses are devices that potentially can harm the eyes if not fit, replaced or cared for properly. Many consumers forget that, although convenient, contact lenses can cause damage to the eyes.
