FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
The current model of prescription verification is flawed. I have had new patients wearing an outdated and under-powered prescription for several years (up to 10!) because of this flaw. This is a danger not only to my patients but also to others on the road. Also, every year I review how the contact lenses should be worn and inspect the corneas for contact-lens overwear. More often, a patient won't be wearing the lenses properly and will have signs of hypoxia which can worsen and cause infection (thus costing the healthcare industry more to treat the infection). The contact lens sellers should be investigated and practices modified, not the doctors who prescribe the best products for their patients.
