FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
I am an optometrist that has been fitting contact lenses since 1972. I also conducted one of the first FDA studies of soft contact lenses. Over the years I have seen countless complications due to contact lens wear. A contact lens is a medical device and as such should be treated the same as my prescription for blood pressure medication. I can not and should not be able to order more pills any time I want. To improve the system the retailers as a group should have to maintain a database the we as prescribers can access to see when and how many contact lenses our patients have aquired. This way the patients will not be loading up on contacts and avoiding proper eye health care. Thank you for your consideration. Richard L Foss, OD
