FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
Our patients safety always comes first. While this law would want us to fill out more paperwork and more documentation it does nothing to make sure that patients healthcare is addressed. Currently online retailers DO NOT need to even have a written prescription from a doctor. They call after hours to verify if a patients prescription is correct and of course we don't have hours on a Sunday evening and they just fill the prescription. There is no safety net for the patient. Many online retailers substitute what has been written with no regard for the patients care. There are many many kinds of contact lenses on the market and a doctor with 32 years experience over an untrained retailer certainly will know what fits best on a patient. We have seen so many patients return with corneal ulcers which left untreated are sight threatening. Please do not push through this legislation.
